2019 Frisco RoughRiders Roster Preview: Part 2

The 2019 Frisco RoughRiders roster is set and the season starts tomorrow night with Brock Burke taking the mound at 7:05 PM CST.

If there is a cause for concern with this team, it is probably the line-up. In the rotation, the top three guys may all end up in Arlington at some point this year.

Catcher

Chuck Moorman

Moorman, 25, bats from the right side. He has never batted for a high average or power. His lifetime on-base percentage is .276. Last year in 49 games with the RoughRiders he batted .191 with 3 home runs and 12 RBI.

Josh Morgan

Morgan, 23, plays multiple positions and bats right-handed. In Frisco he played in 79 games and hit for an average of .231 driving in 30 runs.

Tony Sanchez

Sanchez, 31 in May, was the 4th overall pick by the Pirates in 2009. He played in the Majors with the Pirates and the Braves. He last played in the Majors in 2017 with the Braves and had 1 at bat.

In 2018 between 2 Triple-A teams he batted .298 with 7 home runs and drove in 31.

Infield

Andretty Cordero (1B/3B)

Cordero, 22 in May, bats from the right side and primarily plays 1st base. He also plays 3rd base but not as frequent.

Last year with the Down East Wood Ducks, he played 85 games at 1st and 16 at 3rd. Defensively, he is stronger at 1st base. In 5 seasons, his fielding percentage at 1st is .983 while at 3rd it is .911.

2018: .262, 10 HR, 57 RBI, .297 OBP, .694 OPS

Brendon Davis (SS/3B/2B)

Davis, 21, bats from the right hand side. Last season he played with the Wood Ducks where he played 2nd base, 3rd base and Shortstop. Most of his games were at 3rd base where he had a Fielding percentage of .956 as a result of 7 errors.

2018: .254, 6 HR, 40 RBI, .334 OBP, .699 OPS

Michael De Leon (SS/2B)

De Leon, 22, spent 2017 and 2018 with the RoughRiders. He also has gone to the Dominican Winter league and played for the Tigres del Licey.

With Frisco last year he batted .262, with 4 home runs and 49 RBI. His on base percentage was .295 so he will need to bring that up.

Charles Leblanc (3B/2B/SS)

Leblanc, 23 in June, bats from the right side and spent last season in Down East and the Arizona Fall League.

In Down East he hit .274 with 10 home runs and 72 RBI. His On-base percentage was .349. Defensively speaking 3rd base is not his strong suit with a fielding percentage of .885.

Christian Lopes (2B/3B/SS)

Lopes, 26, bats from the right side. In 2018 he was with Round Rock with the Triple-A affiliate. He batted .261 and hit 12 home runs and drove in 52 runs. His OBP was a respectable .365

Juremi Profar (3B/1B/2B)

Profar, 23, bats from the right hand side of the plate. He is the younger brother of former Ranger Jurickson Profar.

He spent the last two years in Frisco and has hit 10 home runs in each of those years as well. His on-base percentage was not at all where on would want it?at .283.

His fielding percentage at 3rd was .910 and while playing 1st it was .995.

2018: .232, 10 HR, 51 RBI, .283 OBP, .636 OPS

Outfield

Josh Altmann

Altmann, 24, is one of my personal favorites and someone we will keep an eye on. He has played just about every infield position.

Altmann really broke out last year with his power. He hit 20 home runs and his career high before was in 2017 with 10 home runs.

On Media Day, I asked about the home run he hit during Spring Training. He let me know that he has 2 home runs on the Major league side during Spring training. 1 against both Chicago teams. Being from IL makes it that much more special to him.

Eliezer Alvarez (2B/OF/SS)

Alvarez, 24, bats from the right side as well. He got his first big league call up last year when Drew Robinson went on the DL. Unfortunately he never got into a game with the Rangers and was sent back down.

With Frisco he hit .228 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI.

Preston Beck (RF/1B)

Beck, 28, bats from the left side and is a local guy, from Dallas. He had an awesome Spring with the Rangers, batting .346 with 1 home run and 7 RBI.

With Frisco last year he batted .260 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI. That is a career high in home runs for him. His previous high in home runs was in 2014 with 11.

LeDarious Clark (OF)

Clark, 25, bats from the right side. I wasn’t familiar at all with Clark. He spent last year with Down East.

He hit .227 with 9 home runs and 21 RBI.The on base percentage was higher than I expected at .367 due to the number of walks he takes. He also played in the Arizona League where he hit .333.

**Update to the roster 4/4/2019**

RHP Pedro Payano (#15) transferred to Extended Spring Training
RHP Edgar Arredondo (#17) transferred to Extended Spring Training
C Chuck Moorman (#22) transferred to Extended Spring Training

There we have it folks. That is the roster for the 2019 Frisco RoughRiders. This starting rotation has the potential to be really special until one of them gets moved to Nashville or called up.

Remember to come back often as we will have updates every week.
