Minor League Baseball named Frisco RoughRiders 1B/OF Abimelec Ortiz the Texas League Player of the Month for July on August 6, 2025.
The 23-year-old from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, led the league in doubles (8), home runs (7), RBIs (17), slugging percentage (.682), and OPS (1.082), while ranking second in batting average (.341) and third in hits (29) over 21 games.
Stellar Season Before Promotion
Before his promotion to Triple-A Round Rock on August 5, Ortiz was tied for second in the Texas League with 16 home runs and fourth with 56 RBIs. His 35 extra-base hits also tied for third, showcasing his power for the RoughRiders.
He had a stretch of games where he hit a HR three games in a row.
Triple-A Debut Fireworks
In his Triple-A debut on August 5, Ortiz went 4-for-5 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI, tying a Round Rock Express franchise record for RBI in a single game, helping secure an 11-5 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes.
Abimelec's Journey
A product of the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy and Florida Southwestern State College, Ortiz signed with the Rangers as an undrafted free agent on July 29, 2021. In 2023, he earned High-A South Atlantic League MVP and Rangers Tom Grieve Minor League Player of the Year honors.
