Frisco RoughRiders' Break Camp Roster Has a Lot of Promise and a Few Surprises

The Texas Rangers released all of the break camp rosters for their full-season minor league affiliates. The Frisco Roughriders 28-man roster includes sixteen pitchers, three catchers, five infielders, and four outfielders.  There are a handful of surprises that I see on the Roughriders roster. Zak Kent was supposed to be returned to Frisco after spending parts of the last two seasons with AAA Round Rock.  He was placed on the Frisco roster yesterday. He was first promoted to Round Rock late in

International Signings Could Shake Up Top Ten Prospects List

This past Monday marked the opening of the MLB international signing period.  The Rangers signed twenty-three players that day.  Down through the years, the Rangers have done well in the international market.  Two players who are currently in the top ten, on one or more of the more prominent top Rangers’ prospects lists, are Sebastian Walcott and Anthony Gutierrez, were international signings.  There are also several other international players on the various top 30 Rangers’ prospects lists.  Th

Who Will the Rangers Select in the Fourth Round?

Once again, in this year’s draft the Rangers do not have a second or a third round pick.  It is looking more and more like the Rangers will draft one of either Walker Jenkins, Wyatt Langford or Max Clark with their first-round pick, with the consensus still favoring Jenkins. It is impossible to tell how things will work out to determine who the Rangers will select with their next pick in the fourth round, the 108th pick overall.  With each round the projections become less and less reliable.  T

Mock Draft Consensus Eyes a New Walker, Texas Ranger

With the draft just a month away, it is time to take a look at who the Rangers could pick in the first round.  The Rangers are drafting fourth.  There seems to be a very solid consensus that there are five players in the upper tier of this draft.  Some see two guys by themselves in a tier, and then three more in a close second tier.  The five are as follows: 1. Dylan Crews, OF, LSU 2. Paul Skenes, RHP, LSU 3. Wyatt Langford, OF, Florida 4. Walker Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick High (Oak Island

Abimelec Ortiz on the Rise

Earlier this week the Rangers made some personnel moves involving some of their minor league players.  One of those players was Abimelec Ortiz.  He was promoted from Down East to Hickory.  With the Rangers, Abimelec has spent most of his time at first base, but he has also seen some time in right field and at DH. In his first three games with Hickory, he hit three home runs and two sacrifice flies while walking once.  He has certainly started off well after his promotion.  Before his promotion,

Texas Rangers Top 30 Prospects -- May 2023

I usually try to come up with a top 30 list about three times a year.  This is my first one for the year. 1. Evan Carter 2. Owen White 3. Jack Leiter 4. Cody Bradford 5. Brock Porter 6. Justin Foscue 7. Luisangel Acuna 8. Aaron Zavala 9. Anthony Gutierrez 10. Sebastian Walcott 11. Kumar Rocker 12. Blaine Crim 13. Tekoah Roby 14. Mitch Bratt 15. Zak Kent 16. Ricky Vanasco 17. Spotlight on Specht

Last year, after the Rangers finished the draft, most of the attention was focused on the selections of Kumar Rocker and Brock Porter in the first and fourth rounds.  They didn’t have a second or third-round pick due to signing Marcus Semien and Corey Seager. Some fans might be tempted to tune out the draft after the first three or four picks, but it would be wise to pay attention to some of the players picked beyond the fourth round.  That was certainly the case with the Rangers draft last yea
