Deep dive into Gavin Fien's 2025

I am going to take a deep look into Gavin's Fien's minor league career. This will provide more clarity and I hope to give the reader a better idea of how Fein is playing.

Fien has not lit the world on fire in the minor leagues with just a slash line of .220/.267/.608 through his first ten games. He also had three walks compared to 11 strikeouts.

Game One

Fien went 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored. His hits included a RBI triple and a two RBI single. Two of his outs included line outs which means those were probably loud outs.

Game Two

He took a step back in the second game going 1 for 5. He did end up reaching on a field error before he doubled in his last at bat on a line drive to center field.

Game Three

Fien was back at it in the third game going 2 for 4 with a RBI. The first hit was a RBI double in the first inning. That was followed by a single in the third inning.

Game Four

This was the worst game so far in Fien's young career. He went 0 for 4 with a strikeout. The good thing is that he recorded his first walk of his professional career.

Game Five

Game five was another good one for Fien as he went 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored. He got the scoring start for Hickory with a two RBI single in the second inning. He would tack on a double that scored a runner on an error.

Game Six

Fien had another rough one in the sixth game. He went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts, but he did collect another walk.

Game Seven

Fien continued to hit the rookie wall going 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.

Game Eight

Fien got back into the hit column with a single in the first inning. He would end the day 1 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout.

Game Nine

Fien had another rough go of it with a 0 for 4 showing with a pair of strikeouts.

Game Ten

His final game he ended on a better note going 1 for 3 with a single and a sacrifice fly. Fien had his ups and downs throughout the season, but it was a solid season overall. Now I'm going to dive deep into the numbers behind these.

Deep Dive

Out of the 151 pitches that Fien saw through all these games, he only swung at 16 pitches out of the zone. That is roughly only ten percent of the pitches that he saw. This is good to see for fans as Fien is a patient player that will not expand the zone and chase pitches.

Also at least five out of the outs that Fien recorded were line outs which shows that Fien was on top of the ball and was able to get a good swing on it. I was not able to find the exit velocities since those are not available to me.

I hope that this gives you a better understanding of how Fien plays. He won't chase much and has a good understanding of the strike zone. He hits more balls in the air compared to on the ground and hits a good amount of line drives.

All of these are good things for Fien and the Rangers. He just needs to grow from this season and continue to get better as he is just 18-years-old.
