Jacob deGrom’s Long-Awaited Return
Riders Field in Frisco is set to be the epicenter of excitement this week, especially on Thursday and Friday, as two of baseball’s elite, Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, hit the mound for their rehab assignments.
Jacob deGrom, who’s slated for a four-start rehab stint, will be making his first appearance since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2023, his second such surgery.
His first Tommy John procedure took place in 2010 while he was in the New York Mets farm system.
deGrom’s 2023 stint with the Rangers was limited to just six starts, but he was undefeated, with a 2-0 record, a 2.67 ERA over 30.1 innings, allowing just 19 hits, four walks, and racking up an impressive 45 strikeouts. The Rangers won all six starts.

Though it’s early in the season, those six starts were crucial for the Rangers, who ended up matching the Astros’ record and clinched the World Series.
Max Scherzer’s Injury Struggles
On the other side, Max Scherzer, 40, has had a challenging season with the Rangers, plagued by injuries but still contributing to the World Series victory in 2023.
His 2024 season was delayed by back surgery and thumb issues, with his most recent setback being shoulder fatigue.
Scherzer has made only eight starts this season, with a 2-4 record and a 3.89 ERA in 39.1 innings, including eight walks and 38 strikeouts.
As a free agent at season’s end, it seems highly unlikely the Rangers will re-sign him, though the future Hall of Famer has left a mark in his time with Texas as part of the World Series team.
Anticipation and Excitement in Frisco
Let’s face it, as Rangers fans, this is the most exciting thing to watch at this point.
Fans can expect a fantastic display of talent, and with the tradition of catered dinners for rehab assignments, the players will be well-fed.
