Evan Carter Not On the Opening Day Roster. Why Is That Good?
Some may be surprised that Evan Carter did not make the opening day roster. I am not surprised very much at all. I think it was the right decision to start him in AAA. Evan Carter missed a majority of the 2024 season due to back issues. Evan Carter was called up in September in 2023 at the age of 20, and played 23 regular season games with the club. He also played most of the postseason that year. He was a crucial part to that championship team. He was known as “the little savior”. I knew from the get go when he was called up that he sparked that team in 2023. Evan Carter’s 2024 season got off to a very slow start, but he eventually went on the injured list with back issues on May 28th and he never came back.
With all of that time missed Carter missed playing time as well as time to develop as a hitter. I think the right choice was made for him to start 2025 in the minors. He can get his bat back up to speed in meaningless games and possibly develop against left-handed pitchers too. There is no reason for him to be on the team taking at-bats if he is going to struggle. Leody Taveras definitely earned the center field spot over Carter based off of spring training. Every game could be crucial for the Rangers this year, we don’t know yet. They may not have the time to let Carter get back up to speed and waste meaningful at-bats. The Rangers want to win, and I know us fans want them to win after last year. Now some might say that he is already fading away, HE IS 22 YEARS OLD Y’ALL. He is still very young and has not fully developed. He even grew an inch taller over the offseason. Some might be sounding the alarm, but I think it is very unnecessary. I don’t think we will have to worry about him, there is no question about Carter’s talent. He showed how talented he can be in 2023. Evan Carter will be just fine guys and girls.
