The Express bats were on fire last night, launching a barrage of extra-base hits in a convincing 10-2 win over the Chihuahuas. The team racked up 15 hits, including a whopping 8 extra-base hits: 3 home runs, 4 doubles, and 1 triple.
Leading the offensive charge was Jonathan Ornelas, who fell just a homerun shy of the cycle, going 4-for-5 at the plate. Sandro Fabian also had a big night, collecting 2 hits in 5 at-bats and driving in 3 runs, including his first homer of the season. Both Ornelas and Fabian are currently hitting over .400 in this young season.
The Express offense wasn’t limited to just those two hitters. Davis Wendzel added his second homer of the year, while Blaine Crim got in on the action with his first long ball of the season.
On the pitching side, Michael Lorenzen got the start, working 4 innings and allowing just 1 run on 3 hits. He struck out 4 batters in his outing, which was his second start as he stretches out for a potential call-up to the Rangers rotation.
Grant Anderson (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Jesus Tinoco followed with 2 innings of his own, allowing 1 unearned run. Antonio Kelly nearly etched his name in the record books, recording 9 strikes in his inning of work, just one shy of an immaculate inning.
With this win, the Express have taken 3 out of the first 4 games in this 6-game series.
They look to extend their lead tonight at 7:35 PM with Owen White taking the mound.
