Today, the Hickory Crawdads officially unveiled their new Goat-Karts identity, adding a fresh and unique look to their lineup of team theme night identities, which also includes the Llamas de Hickory, Couch Potatoes and Hickory Dickory Docks.
Hickory’s early growth was fueled by the wagon-making industry, with the Piedmont Wagon Company playing a pivotal role in the city’s development. At its peak, the company was producing over 1,000 wagons per month, which were recognized by their dark green bodies, red wheels, and yellow trim.
A fun twist came in the form of their “goat carts”—wagons designed for children’s recreation, pulled by goats. This nostalgic piece of Hickory’s history has been reimagined in the Crawdads’ new Goat-Karts identity.
Hickory’s rich racing history also plays a role in the team’s new look. Known as the “Birthplace of NASCAR stars,” Hickory’s short track has produced some of racing’s biggest names. The Crawdads have leaned into this heritage before, hosting the Crawdad Cup Championship in 1995, where drivers like Jeff Gordon and Dale Jarrett took swings at softballs as part of Motor Head Mondays.
The Goat-Karts identity combines both of these key aspects of Hickory’s past—wagon-making and racing—to create an engaging and historically rooted team persona.
Fans eager to sport the new identity can already purchase Goat-Karts merchandise, with items available now. However, the team has not yet announced the dates when the Crawdads will take the field under their new Goat-Karts identity. Stay tuned for more updates.
