SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Hub City Spartanburgers have introduced their first alternate identity, the Spartan Regiment, to commemorate the Revolutionary War militia unit that inspired the city's name and contributed significantly to America's independence.

The launch comes as communities across the country gear up to mark America's 250th anniversary in 2026. It highlights the strong partnership between the team and Spartanburg Community College in recognizing the Upstate's military heritage and saluting veterans and active-duty service members.

The Spartan Regiment uniforms will debut on the field May 23, 2026. The team plans to wear the alternate look for three games this season, each featuring enhanced ticket discounts for active-duty and retired military personnel.

The original Spartan Regiment was formed in 1775, when opposition to British authority was widely condemned. Comprising roughly 250 soldiers, the unit operated in one of the war's most contested theaters and helped secure important Patriot victories, including the Battle of Cowpens in 1781. Four years later, in 1785, Spartanburg County was established and named in honor of these early defenders who confronted the world's leading military force of the time.

The alternate uniform design is inspired by the Spartan Regiment flag, which was first displayed at the Museum of the American Revolution in 2023.

The Spartanburg County Public Library now owns the historic flag and is overseeing its restoration. The uniforms incorporate matching colors, text on the caps and jerseys, and 13 bars on the sleeve representing the original 13 colonies.

The cap logo features an interlocking SR, symbolizing the regiment's united effort in the fight for American freedom.

The Spartanburgers will wear the Spartan Regiment uniforms during Memorial Day Weekend on May 23-24, 2026, and again on August 2.

On May 23, Fifth Third Park will offer an immersive experience portraying life during the Revolutionary War. May 24 will include a Memorial Day celebration honoring fallen service members, followed by a postgame Super Fireworks Show.

On August 2, the team and Spartanburg Community College will present a replica Spartan Regiment flag during pregame ceremonies. Spartanburg Community College serves as the presenting sponsor of the Veteran of the Game.

Enhanced military discounts will be available for active and former service members at all three games. The August 2 contest will also feature tax-free tickets, with all ticketing taxes waived.

Tickets for the Spartan Regiment games are on sale now through the team's website or box office.
