Jose Corniell made his MLB Debut

Jose Corniell made his MLB Debut with the Texas Rangers on Sunday, September 28, against the Cleveland Guardians.
He made his debut out of the pen in the bottom of the 8th inning. Corniell struck out his first batter but allowed four runs in the bottom of the 10th, including a three-run walk-off home run to Brayan Rocchio, resulting in a 9-8 loss. He pitched 1.2 innings total.
Acquired by the Rangers from the Seattle Mariners in December 2020 for reliever Rafael Montero, the 22-year-old returned from Tommy John Surgery in 2025. With the Double-A RoughRiders, he went 0-1 with a 0.45 ERA over six starts, striking out 20, walking one, and allowing five hits (.078 batting average against) in 20.0 innings.
Corniell was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock, where he made three starts before his September 26 call-up to the Rangers.
Corniell was named the 2023 Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year, and is the No. 3 prospect in the Rangers system and their top pitching prospect.
In 2023, across Low-A Down East and High-A Hickory, he went 8-3 with a 2.92 ERA, striking out 119 and walking 31 over 101.2 innings.
Corniell is the 10th former RoughRiders player to make their MLB debut this season, joining Liam Hicks, Chase Lee, Zak Kent, Grant Wolfram, Tyler Owens, Blaine Crim, Alejandro Osuna, Cody Freeman, and Maximo Acosta.
He is the 224th player on the Road to the Show Wall presented by Avondale Dealerships at Riders Field.
