Marcus Semien has earned his second career Gold Glove Award and became the first second baseman in Rangers and Senators franchise history to receive the honor.

Semien was announced as a finalist for the Rawlings Gold Glove in his position, alongside teammates Jacob deGrom, Corey Seager, Wyatt Langford, and Adolis García. However, Semien was the only player from the group to take home the award, announced Sunday evening for both leagues.

Despite a challenging year marked by injuries, miscues, and a somewhat lackluster offensive output from the Rangers, the team's defense remained a standout. The Rangers set a franchise record with a team fielding percentage of .99112, breaking the MLB record previously held by the 2013 Orioles (.99104). Additionally, they led Major League Baseball in defensive runs saved (DRS) with 89.

Known for his defensive prowess, Semien truly shined this season, exceeding the upper 90th percentile among all qualified defenders. He led the American League in fielding percentage at .996. While some may consider this a down year for Semien defensively evidenced by his five runs saved and seven Outs Above Average, figures slightly below his previous seasons he still led the league in both categories. His consistency was key in securing his Gold Glove.

Since transitioning to second base in Toronto to accommodate up and coming prospect Bo Bichette, Semien has become a defensive mainstay. Earning two Gold Gloves at the position, his effort, dedication, and hard work have paid off. Over the past four seasons with the Rangers, Semien has established himself as one of the most dependable defenders in the league.
