The Frisco RoughRiders will be in the market for their 10th manager in franchise history in 2026. This comes as the Seattle Mariners hired Carlos Cardoza as their new third base coach.
This will be Cardoza's first year on a Major League staff as he enters his 11th year as a professional coach.
Cardoza led the Double-A RoughRiders to a 221-190 record during his tenure with the team. His .538 winning percentage is currently tied for the best in the franchise's history.
His best season with Frisco was 2024, when he managed the team to an 84-54 record, which stands as the best regular-season winning percentage (.609) in franchise history and clinched the first-half title.
Cardoza’s total managerial experience includes guiding the Hickory Crawdads, the club's High-A affiliate, to a 66-65 record in 2022, and a 19-11 record with the Surprise Saguaros in 2023.
He also managed the Down East Wood Ducks in 2021 as well as the Dominican Summer League Rangers and the Arizona League Rangers.
Cardoza has been with the Texas Rangers organization since 2015.
Players spoke highly of their former manager:
"Carlos is an absolute leader. To his players, to his coaching staff. He not only leads by example but by the use of his words and the way he coaches. He is an amazing man as well as a coach. He’s taught me as much off the field as well as on the field and has been an amazing impact on my career!" said a player who played for Cardoza.
Another simply stated, "Carlos is a f'g beast."
"Carlos has been one of the best coaches and mentor I’ve had throughout my minor league career. I’m very happy that he is getting a shot to coach the next level. He very much deserves it!" said a third player.
Cardoza took over as manager after Jared Goedert left the organization after leading the RoughRiders to the 2022 Texas League Championship.
We wish Carlos Cardoza the best of luck in his new role as the Mariners third base coach—except when they play against the Rangers.
