Right-hander Mason Englert, a native of Forney, Texas, will take the mound for the RoughRiders in game one of the Texas League Championship.
Left-hander, Kody Funderburk (10-5, 2.94) is scheduled to start for the Wichita Wind Surge (Twins).
Englert, 23 in November, has had a solid season and he made a case to be named the Texas Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the year.
Some of his accomplishments this season include back-to-back pitcher of the week, pitcher of the month, and he was part of a combined no-hitter.
He had a 7-5 win-loss record with a 3.57 ERA in 103.1 innings pitched for the Hickory Crawdads. He had thrown 13 innings of no-hit ball across two starts.
Englert was promoted to Double-A Frisco on August 31st
He made his first start on September 1st against the Amarillo Sod Poodles.
He pitched five innings, allowing one run on six hits and struckout seven batters.
He pitched 15.1 innings with a 4.11 ERA for the RoughRiders prior to the conclusion of the season.
According to MLB.com, Englert is the Rangers’ number 30 prospect and he’s one of the many rule-5 eligible players this winter.
RoughRiders won the Texas League Championship in 2004
The RoughRiders last won the championship in 2004 over the Round Rock Express who were a Double-A team at the time.
