Mike Minor is no longer a Ranger. He was traded to one of the Rangers Division rivals: the Athletics. I dont have an issue trading within the Division in this scenario since Minor is a free agent at the end of the year.
Minor came to the Rangers as a Free Agent Signing a 3 year deal in 2018 from the Royals. Mike was in the bullpen with the Royals before signing with the Rangers to be one of the top of the rotation pitchers.
The return for Texas was two PTBNL – which turned out to be OF Marcus Smith and 3B Dustin Harris, both 2019 draft picks. Not a bad haul for the Rangers in my opinion.
Marcus Smith
Smith was drafted in the 3rd round and is ranked by MLB.com as the # 22 prospect for the Athletics and is about to be 20 years old in September. He played in the Arizona Rookie League in 2019 where he hit for a line of .361/.466/.443/.909 in at-bats. He didn’t hit any home runs but MLB.com also notes the lack of power as he is more of a line drive hitter. Smith bats and throws left-handed.
Though is is a smaller sample size, Smith hit left-handed pitching well. He hit .538/.647/.615/1.262 in 13 at-bats.
Dustin Harris
Harris, 21, was drafted in the 11th round. He bats from the left side of the plate and throws right-handed. He played in 58 games between the Rookie League and Short-season and hit for a line of .325/.403/.407/.810 with 1 home run and 26 RBI.
The Rangers also picked up $133,000 in International Slot Money according to Jeff Wilson.
