Rangers First Week of Spring Training Recap
It has been a decently active first week of spring training for the Rangers. Mostly being various injury updates on players
February 17th(First day of full squad workouts)-
On the first day of full squad workouts the Rangers announced they signed former Rangers reliever Luke Jackson to a 1 year 1.5 million dollar deal. I like the addition, his slider has played well and he could be a good arm for us.
Joc Pederson was missed a couple days because of the flu.
Evan Carter speaking about his back is making Ranger fans feel better. He was saying last year he was try ing to replicate what he was doing in 2023 but he couldn’t. Then eventually he said it was just hurting too much and that’s when he was shut down. He says he is feeling great and 100%.
February 18th-
I don’t think there was anything, seemed like a quiet day.
February 19th-
Joc Pederson returned and resumed baseball activities after recovering from the flu.
Adolis Garcia’s swinging in batting practice surfaced on twitter, and it’s safe to say I feel a lot better about his swing after seeing that video. In 2024, when he would swing he moved his hands a lot. In the video he has seemed to got rid of the hand movement, and his hands are still. I feel that we will see the Adolis Garcia that we saw in 2023.
February 20th-
Kohl Drake is being held out of throwing due to a stiff back.
February 21st(First Spring Training Game!)-
Early in the morning of the 21st reports came out that Wyatt Langford had a mild oblique strain. Bruce Bochy did say it would not impact opening day for him. Reports also said he will be down 5-7 days and then resume baseball activities.
Nathan Eovaldi started the spring opener against the Kansas City Royals for the Rangers. In the first inning he gave up a lead off single then induced an inning ending double play courtesy of Vinnie Pasquantino. Then he ran into some trouble in his last inning of work, hitting Michael Massey and walking Nelson Velázquez. He then got Kyle Isabel to ground out, then Nick Loftin grounded a single up the middle bringing in two runs. He did get a strikeout to the end the inning. Dane Dunning was next up to pitch he breezed through the first inning with 9 pitches and striking out Vinnie Pasquantino. Then the next inning he let up a lead off double and then got out of the inning after that, ending the inning on a strikeout. Non-roster invitee Chad Wallach got the Rangers first extra base hit of the spring in the top of the 8th inning. Then Blaine Crim got Wallach over to third base on a single. Trevor Hauver(who the Rangers got in the Joey Gallo trade in 2021) got the first two RBIs of the spring for the Rangers, he drives a double to centerfield to tie the game 2-2. However, the Rangers fell short of the Royals losing 5-2.
This recap may be a little bit shorter because things are just getting going, hope to see/hear more news and good things coming from camp . I will post weekly recaps from any news and game recaps too. Should go out every Friday until opening day.
