The 2026 international signing period is scheduled to open on Jan. 15 and extend through Dec. 15, providing the Texas Rangers an opportunity to add fresh talent to their prospect ranks.

Texas holds a $6.68 million bonus pool, the same amount available to the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals.

Right-hander Frandel Pineda, ranked No. 46 on MLB Pipeline's international prospects list, has drawn connections to the Rangers. He is the nephew of ex-MLB pitcher Michael Pineda, who notched 64 wins during a nine-year major league tenure, made one All-Star team and approached 1,000 strikeouts.

Pineda spent his early amateur years at shortstop before concentrating on the mound. He displays comparable physical attributes to his uncle, highlighted by a smooth, whippy arm action that has proven dominant against most hitters encountered.

His infield experience fostered substantial arm strength. Pineda's fastball operates in the 92-94 mph range, topping out at 95 mph, and observers expect more velocity to emerge as he hones his mechanics and gains additional physical maturity.

He complements the heater with a sharp 83-85 mph slider boasting strong spin, frequently producing uncomfortable swings on balls away from the zone, though he has occasional command issues. A changeup rounds out the rest of his mix.

Overall, Pineda shows reliable strike-throwing. The athletic foundation from shortstop enables fluid mound delivery, and his height combined with arm slot creates effective leverage and plane.

Supported by big league family experience and a frame offering considerable projection, Pineda profiles as someone who could advance swiftly in the professional ranks after signing.

The Texas Rangers' farm system boasts considerable depth in pitching, a key organizational strength, and bringing in another promising arm like Pineda adds further excitement to the mix. His tools, pedigree and upside make his development a storyline worth tracking closely.

The Texas Rangers are also expected to sign outfielder Elian Rosario.
