Rangers Making Some Coaching Staff Changes
Reports came out on Sunday November 2nd that two Rangers coaches will not return to the coaching staff in 2026. Third base coach/outfield coach Tony Beasley will not be returning to the club and is seeking other opportunities. The club is open to re-hiring him if he doesn't find what he is looking for. Also reported, hitting coach Bret Boone is not expected to return to the club in 2026.
Tony Beasley was not only a fan favorite, but he was loved within the organization among the staff and players. Beasley was also very good with the outfielders. The Rangers have had good defense in the outfield consistently with Tony Beasley at the helm coaching the outfielders.
Bret Boone was brought in as hitting coach after the Rangers fired Offensive Coordinator Donnie Ecker. The Rangers offense slightly improved as the year went on under Boone, but it wasn't good enough to push the Rangers into October.
There is no word on who could replace Tony Beasley's spot. Could it be Jon Jay a former base coach for Skip while he was with the Marlins who is currently in St Louis? Possibly, we will have to see who the Rangers decide to hire. As for Bret Boone, it has been reported by Evan Grant that It is expected that Justin Viele will be promoted to lead hitting instructor. Grant also reported that former Astros hitting instructor, Alex Cintron, has emerged as a very strong candidate to join the coaching staff. In six seasons Cintron coordinated the team’s hitting instruction, the Astros ranked fifth in the majors in OPS+.
I think Alex Cintron would be a very good hire for the Rangers. Houston has been a very good disciplined team that took a lot of walks and battled at the plate. The Rangers definitely did not do that in 2025 at all. In his tenure with the Astros, they had top 10 offenses in baseball in every year except 2020 (the shorten season) and in 2025 that was plagued with injuries.
