Rangers take the series vs Boston in DeGrom’s season debut

The Texas Rangers were able to come out on top of the opening series of the season, taking 3 outta 4 from the Red Sox.

Today was the season debut of Jacob DeGrom and he was just as good as he’s advertised. DeGrom went 5 scoreless today punching out 6 Red Sox batters while allowing just 2 walks and 2 hits. His Fastball topped out at 98.1 which is about where he stated that he would have it sit so he can conserve his arm and be at his best the longest. Another topic in Spring was how he wanted to incorporate his curveball more and he showed it today using it 7 times and at a 10% usage which is way up, the last time deGrom had 10% Curve usage in a season was 2017. If the Rangers can get this out of DeGrom for a full year it’s sure slated to be a fun one.

Now the Rangers got the offense going first, when in the second inning the hit 3 straight singles and then after a strikeout by Ornelas, Zeke Duran hit a sac fly to make it 1-0 Rangers

Then after deGrom’s day was over, the Rangers brought in Shawn Armstrong and the sixth would simply not go his way. A run would score on a 2 out Wilyer Abreu double and then he would score on a bad throw to first by Duran from third that couldn’t be picked by Burger and landed in no man’s land giving the Red Sox a 2-1 lead in the 6th.

However, the Rangers would storm right back as Wyatt Langford would lead off the inning with an Opposite field solo shot that sent 341’ Feet. But then after Joc grounded out to third, El Bombi wound hit an absolute monster 431 foot no doubt shot into the second deck to put the Rangers ahead and be the deciding factor in the ballgame.

Bochy would then call upon Robert Garcia, Chris Martin and Luke Jackson to get the final 3 outs of the game and close the door on the 4 game opening series vs Boston.

This was a big start to the season for the Rangers as taking 3 of 4 from a potential playoff team is always big and aside from Wilyer Abreu(who was responsible for eight of the 10 Red Sox runs) the pitching staffed really showed up especially last night when Mahle couldn’t even get out of the second inning.

The Rangers will now head out to Cincinnati for a three game set where we will see Kumar Rocker make is 2025 season debut against a very talented and young Reds team.
