The Texas Rangers will sign outfielder Wyatt Langford to a $8 million contract, the fifth-highest bonus ever given to a first-round draft pick.
It was reported by Jim Callis:
Langford, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound right-handed hitter from Trenton, Florida, was the Rangers’ fourth overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. Langford had a breakout season in 2022, hitting .356 with 26 home runs and 71 RBIs for the University of Florida. He followed that up with a strong 2023 season, batting .373 with 21 home runs and 57 RBIs.
Langford is a power-hitting outfielder with a good eye for walks. He has a career walk-to-strikeout ratio of 0.82, and he drew 92 walks in 592 at-bats over the past two seasons.
The Rangers are hoping that Langford can be a cornerstone of their offense for years to come. He has the potential to be a 30-home, 100-RBI player.
