Critical 8th-Inning Moment
Pitching Change in the 8th
In the top of the 8th, with the Express leading 5-4, they made a pitching change, replacing Luis Curvelo with Jacob Latz (L, 0-2) (BS, 1). Latz initially looked sharp, getting a 4-pitch fly out for the first out.
Blown Save and Game-Changing Homer
Latz then lost his command, walking the next 2 hitters. He managed to get a groundout for the second out, but on a 0-1 count, he threw an 86 MPH changeup that was hit over the left field wall at 107 MPH for a 3-run homer. The home run flipped the score from a 5-4 lead to a 7-5 deficit with 2 innings left, resulting in a blown save for Latz and a loss for the Express.
