We need to talk about one of the hottest pitchers in the Texas Rangers farm system: RHP Ryan Lobus.
The 23-year-old from Georgia has been turning heads with his performances, and his unique release point is something that really stands out to me.
In tonight’s 4-0 win for the Hickory Crawdads Baseball Club, Lobus showcased his talent once again. He pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits, one walk, and striking out four. This performance continues his impressive season, bringing his record to 3-1 with a 1.99 ERA.
Lobus’s success isn’t limited to Hickory. Combining his performances for both the Down East Wood Ducks and the Crawdads this season, he boasts an impressive 6-1 record with a 1.79 ERA. His journey through the minor leagues this year has been nothing short of spectacular.
Dominating at Down East
While with the Down East Wood Ducks, Lobus appeared in six games, pitching a total of 17.2 innings. During this time, he gave up just four runs (three earned) on 12 hits, walked four batters, and struck out 25. He held an outstanding 1.53 ERA and kept opposing batters to a .188 average.
Despite starting only two of those games, he was dominant. In his first start, he pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. In his second start, he pitched four scoreless innings and struck out seven.
Lobus Shining in Hickory
Since his promotion to Hickory, Lobus has continued his dominance. In three starts, he has pitched 15.2 innings, giving up five runs on 10 hits, with five walks and 26 strikeouts. He has maintained a 2.87 ERA while holding opposing batters to a .175 average.
Notably, Lobus has not given up more than two runs in any outing this season.
His season high in strikeouts came on May 22nd when he struck out 12 batters in just five innings against the Asheville Tourists. Remarkably, he struck out nine batters in a row on his way to 12 strikeouts, showcasing his ability to dominate hitters.
In July of 2023, the Texas Rangers signed Ryan Lobus as an undrafted free agent. Now, Lobus is quickly emerging as one of the most thrilling pitchers in the Rangers’ farm system. Perhaps, the Rangers have unearthed a hidden gem in Lobus.
