Weber's 4-Hit Night helps the Pointy Boots Find the Launch Pad Against San Antonio
The Sod Poodles got their swagger back to take the series opener at Hodgetown. Dylan Ray once again shined despite the box score. Ray tossed a great outing outside of one bad inning in the 2nd that saw 9-Hole hitter Fransisco Acuna punish the Sod Poodles right hander for allowing a pair of walks and a single by tanking an 0-2 pitch out of the yard for a Grand Slam to give San Antonio a 4-0 lead early. No one else would cross the plate the rest of the night for the visiting Missions. Ray spun 4 s
Giesting puts on a Show to Go 3-0, Soddies Double Their Way to a Win in Frisco
Once again when Amarillo needed him most, Spencer Giesting shoved, but tonight he had some help early. Before Spencer Giesting could even put his cape on tonight, the Amarillo offense finally popped early. The Sod Poodles hit 3 doubles off of Frisco starter Brett Anderson in the first inning alone, courtesy of Kristian Robinson, Christian Cerda, and Caleb Roberts. Amarillo would tally 5 hits in the first inning, giving them a 5-0 score before the Amarillo starter could even deliver a pitch. Befo
Soddies by Morning: A Familiar Finale for Amarillo, Springfield Series Recap
The Sod Poodles swapped identities on Sunday afternoon, but unfortunately it was more of the same in the series finale against Springfield. Amarillo fell to 2-7 after a 17-12 loss on Sunday. The game went like most of the 6-Games this week. The Cardinals attacked starting pitching early again. Amarillo starter Roman Angelo struggled with the long ball again on Sunday, giving up 3 more home runs, bringing his total to 7 on the season so far. Springfield wasted no time getting to work scoring 4 in
Sod Poodles Bats Come Alive, Giesting Shines Again, Troy on a Tear
The streak is over. The Sod Poodles finally claimed their first home victory, and thanks to another great start from Spencer Giesting, and the bats absolutely exploading, it was never really in doubt. The Sod Poodles got exactly what they needed from Spencer Giesting last night. After a scoreless first outing in San Antonio, Giesting found himself the only Sod Poodles starter to start a victory. The Sod Poodles were in the midst of a 4 game losing streak, lasting since his start last Sunday in
Soddies by Morning: Groover Extends Hitting Streak, Sod Poodles Walk 11 in a Close One
Springfield 3 - Amarillo 2 W: Zane Mills (1-1) L: Zane Russell (0-1) S: Sean Harney (2) Springfield the entire series has driven the Sod Poodles starter pitch counts up early, and Short experienced no different on Friday night. Short threw 38 pitches in a laborious first inning including walking two, but settled in after only giving up a single run despite loading the bases. “I felt pretty good. I wish I could have limited the walks a little more, but overall I felt pretty good” Short said pos
Soddies by Morning: Heartbreak at Hodgetown
The ninth inning woes continued in Hodgetown on Tuesday night for the Sod Poodles. In a game with five lead changes, Amarillo took a 9-8 lead into the 9th inning before Gerardo Gutierrez gave up 2 singles, 2 walks and eventually a go ahead sacrifice fly by outfielder Chase Davis, once again putting his fingerprints all over this series. Amarillo has now allowed 12 ninth inning runs in just three games (San Antonio did not have to bat in their two wins last series). The Sod Poodles' last shot
Soddies by Morning: Springfield Uses Two Huge Innings to Sink the Sod Poodles Home Opener
There were fireworks after the game, but Springfield put together their own fireworks show in the 5th and 9th to sink Amarillo 16-7 in their home opener. A former Sod Poodle told me last night when asked about what to do when the wind is blowing out of Hodgetown: “Pray harder.” After a clean first inning from Amarillo starter, Arizona’s #26 prospect Roman Angelo, the Cardinals took advantage of the Panhandle wind blowing out early, homering in 4 consecutive innings between the 2nd and the 5th.
