Day two of the 2024 MLB Draft brought some exciting new talent to the Texas Rangers farm system. Here's a recap of our picks from rounds 3 through 10, along with a breakdown by position.
3rd Round (103rd Overall): Casey Cook, OF, University of North Carolina
DOB: 10/02/2002
The Rangers selected Casey Cook, a standout outfielder from the University of North Carolina. Cook showcased impressive stats this season with a .341/.431/.605 slash line, hitting 18 home runs, driving in 78 RBIs, and stealing 7 bases. He also maintained a solid walk-to-strikeout ratio with 36 BB and 55 SO. Cook was ranked No. 171 on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list.
4th Round (133rd Overall): David Hagaman, RHP, West Virginia
DOB: 04/16/2003
Next up, the Rangers picked right-handed pitcher David Hagaman from West Virginia. Standing at 6'4" and weighing 215 pounds, Hagaman recorded a 2-3 win-loss record with a 5.91 ERA over 35 innings this season, striking out 49 batters and walking 19. An injury cut his season short.
5th Round (165th Overall): Devin Fitz-Gerald, SS, Stoneman Douglas HS
DOB: 08/17/2005
In the fifth round, the Rangers chose shortstop Devin Fitz-Gerald from Stoneman Douglas High School. Ranked 218th on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list, the 18-year-old switch hitter, who stands at 5'10" and 185 pounds, has committed to North Carolina State. Fitz-Gerald posted a .407 average with a .533 OBP, hitting 5 home runs and driving in 26 RBIs.
6th Round (195th Overall): Garrett Horn, LHP, Liberty University
DOB: 10/02/2002
The Rangers selected left-handed pitcher Garrett Horn from Liberty University in the sixth round. Listed at 6'1" and 205 pounds, the 21-year-old recorded a 2-1 win-loss record with a 4.05 ERA over 20 innings, striking out 29 and walking 10.
7th Round (225th Overall): Rafe Perich, 3B, Lehigh University
DOB: 05/22/2002
In the seventh round, the Rangers picked Rafe Perich, a switch-hitting third baseman from Lehigh University. The 22-year-old, standing at 6'3" and weighing 225 pounds, slashed .382/.492/.572 with 6 home runs, 41 RBIs, 34 walks, and 23 strikeouts.
8th Round (255th Overall): Anthony Susac, RHP, University of Arizona
DOB: 07/31/2002
The Rangers chose right-handed pitcher Anthony Susac from the University of Arizona in the eighth round. Soon to be 22, Susac recorded a 2-2 win-loss record with a 6.59 ERA over 28.2 innings, striking out 36 and walking 7.
9th Round (285th Overall): Keith Jones II, OF, New Mexico State
DOB: 04/29/2002
In the ninth round, the Rangers selected outfielder Keith Jones II from New Mexico State. The 22-year-old left-handed batter, standing at 6'2" and weighing 220 pounds, slashed an impressive .367/.472/.710 with 17 home runs, 67 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, 35 walks, and 47 strikeouts. In 2023, he hit .371/.483/.600 with 9 home runs and 29 RBI.
10th Round (315th Overall): Jake Jekielek, RHP, Northwood University
DOB: 09/04/2002
Rounding out day two, the Rangers picked right-handed pitcher Jake Jekielek from Northwood University.
The 21-year-old, standing at 6'0" and weighing 195 pounds, recorded a 5-3 win-loss record with a 4.29 ERA over 42 innings, striking out 56 and walking 5 with a 0.929 WHIP.
During his time with the Royal Oak Leprechauns, he posted a 2-1 record with a 0.73 ERA over 24.2 innings, striking out 31 and walking 10.
He’s a reliever prospect who throws from a sidearm— arm slot, sometimes submarine.
