The Texas Rangers announced their minor league award winners for the month of June. We have four very deserving players. Both Josh Stephan and Alex Speas them have recently received a promotion within the last few weeks. Abimelec Ortiz might see a promotion to Frisco soon.

Let’s take a look at their numbers that earned them their awards.

Player – 1B Abimelec Ortiz

Abimelec Ortiz was scorching hot at the plate in June. He slashed a line of .374/.442/.723/1.165 with 8 home runs and 22 RBI. Between High-A and Low-A, he has 19 home runs total, which leads all of the Rangers farm system.

A promotion to Frisco soon may not be far fetched for Ortiz.

Starting Pitcher – RHP Josh Stephan

Right-handed pitcher Josh Stephan, who attended South Grand Prairie, pitched to a 3-1 win-loss record in June. He held opposing batters to a .195 batting average and .247 on-base percentage. In his 25 innings pitched, he struck out 32 batters and only issued 4 walks.

Reliever – RHP Alex Speas

Reliever – RHP Alex Speas is a repeat offender on this list. He was the reliever of the month in May as well. In June, he held opposing batters to a .149 average and .216 on-base percentage. He struckout 55 batters in his 34 innings.

Speas might see some time in Arlington before this season is over.

Defender – OF Geisel Cepeda, 25, has not committed an error so far this season. For June he has 29 putouts and one assist. He’s got 3 assists on the season. At the plate for the season, he’s slashing .279/.366/.358/.724 with 4 home runs and 24 RBI.
