Texas Rangers Draft Profile: JoJo Parker
JoJo Parker, Mississippi's top shortstop, shines with big-time hitting in the 2025 draft.

The 2025 MLB draft will have several prep shortstops taken in the first round. One of the best of those is Joseph “JoJo” Parker. He played for Purvis High School in Mississippi. He was named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year after his very successful senior season. JoJo Parker is one of seven draft prospects that I identified in a previous article as the prospects most likely to be drafted by the Rangers when they pick with pick number 12 in the first round.
In my last draft profile article I mentioned that Kyson Witherspoon had a twin brother that would be drafted this year as well. JoJo Parker also has a twin brother, Jacob, who will be drafted this year. Jacob may even be taken on Day 1 as he is currently listed as the 109th best draft prospect by MLB Pipeline.
JoJo Parker posted a batting average of over .400 in all four seasons at Purvis High School. He put up an OPS of 1.168, 1.614, 1.490, and 1.675 in those four seasons, respectively. In 37 games at Purvis this season, Parker slashed an amazing .465/.665/1.010. That included 11 doubles, 2 triples, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, 70 runs scored and 30 stolen bases. He is a left-handed hitter with incredible bat-to-ball skills. MLB Pipeline says Parker “has a sound left-handed swing, manages the strike zone well and employs a gap-to-gap approach.”
JoJo Parker is considered to be one of the best pure hitters in this year’s high school class. He has a plus hit tool and is considered to have an above average power tool. He is 6’2” and weighs 195lbs. Some scouts have even given him a 70 grade for hitting. Joe Doyle of Future Star Series says of Parker, “Parker has a simple swing with a quiet forward move and a consistent attack angle that does well generating hard contact, backspinning the baseball to all fields. The kid is going to hit and he’s proven as such across his high school career.” He doesn’t expand the zone and has proven he can catch up to good velocity.
He will get even stronger as he matures and develops. Some think his power will eventually enable him to hit 20-25 home runs in the big leagues, while others optimistically think he has the potential to reach 30 home runs.
JoJo Parker is a shortstop for now and will be given a chance to play there professionally. There is a chance that he has to play either 2B or 3B in the big leagues, but his bat profiles very well at those positions, as well. He has good hands and a plus arm, but his range is average at best.
There is a chance that Parker will be drafted before the Rangers turn comes up, but if they do get the chance and they select him, it would be a fantastic pick.
