Texas Rangers Farm Recap 7/25

Here’s the rundown on the Texas Rangers’ affiliate action from Friday, July 25, 2025,

Round Rock Express (AAA)

The Round Rock Express fell 8-6 to the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners), but the spotlight was on rehabbing big-leaguer Josh Sborz as he nears a return to the Rangers’ bullpen.

Pitching: RHP Josh Sborz, on a rehab assignment, pitched one inning, allowing one run (unearned) with one walk, one strikeout, and three swing-and-misses on 19 pitches (11 strikes), hitting a top velocity of 92.4 mph.

Starter Cory Abbott had a tougher outing, giving up five runs on four hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.

Hitting: The Express bats stayed lively, with Dustin Harris (2-for-3), Trevor Hauver (2-for-4), and Alan Trejo (2-for-4) each notching multi-hit games.

Hauver led the way, smashing a 2-run home run and driving in three runs, but it wasn’t enough to catch Tacoma.

Here's the boxscore.

Frisco RoughRiders (AA)

The Frisco RoughRiders fell 3-0 to the Wind Surge (Twins) in a rain-shortened five-inning game, unable to get the bats going.

Pitching: RHP David Davalillo (1-2, 2.45 ERA) started for Frisco in his fourth start and fifth appearance, taking his second Double-A loss. He pitched four innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts, generating 7 swing-and-misses on 60 pitches (37 strikes, 62%). Wind Surge starter RHP John Klein tossed four innings, giving up 3 hits, 3 walks, and fanning 5.

Hitting: The RoughRiders’ offense struggled, with Cam Cauley, Aaron Zavala, and Luis Mieses each managing a single hit. Zavala (6th SB) and Cauley (25th SB) each swiped a base, but the bats couldn’t spark a rally. Rangers DH/1B Joc Pederson went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. This was his second rehab start.

This is the RoughRiders second loss in a row and they are now 9-16 in the second half.

Hub City Spartanburgers (A+)

The Hub City Spartanburgers dropped a tight 2-4 game to the Greenville Drive (Red Sox), bringing their record to 47-46. Despite the loss, a few standouts kept the fight alive.

Pitching: LHP Dalton Pence delivered a solid outing, tossing three scoreless innings. He scattered four hits, struck out one, and threw 47 pitches (30 strikes, 64%), keeping the Drive’s bats in check.

Hitting: Anthony Gutierrez led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and swiping his 33rd base of the season, showing off his blazing speed. Both Spartanburgers runs came in the first, sparked by Casey Cook (.202), who went 1-for-4 with an RBI. A wild pitch by pitcher Brandon Clarke allowed Arturo Disla to score.

Quincy Scott (.240) added a 1-for-4 day and stole his 13th base.

Hickory Crawdads (A-)

The Hickory Crawdads rolled to a 5-2 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets (Braves), mirroring the big-league Rangers’ 8-3 win over the Braves.

Pitching: LHP Garrett Horn set the tone, firing four innings and allowing 2 runs on four hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts on 61 pitches (40 strikes). LHP Thomas Ireland sealed the deal, earning his seventh win (2.69 ERA) with five stellar innings, giving up just two hits, one walk, and fanning six on 62 pitches (42 strikes).

Hitting: CF Yeremy Cabrera led the charge, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Every Crawdad except Pablo Guerrero notched at least one hit, but Guerrero still drew a walk, so the entire lineup reached base.
