Welcome to the latest edition of The Prospect Times Journal! Here’s a detailed recap of the games played on June 9, 2024. Overall, the teams went 2-2 today.
Round Rock Express
Big news for Texas Rangers fans as veteran pitcher Max Scherzer was assigned to AAA for an MLB rehab assignment. This is a huge deal for the Texas Rangers pitching staff.
Scherzer looked sharp, pitching 4 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out 5 against the Oklahoma City Baseball Club. He threw 53 pitches, 37 for strikes, showing he’s still got it.
Cole Winn (3.68) stepped up to earn his first save of the season, pitching one inning with two walks and two strikeouts.
At the Plate
Blaine Crim blasted his 7th HR of the season in the 9th inning off ex-Rangers farmhand Ricky Vanasco. It left the bat at an impressive 109.4 mph and traveled 373 feet.
Sandro Fabian (.319) went 2-4 with an RBI.- Jose Barrero also had a two-hit game.
The Express secured a 3-1 win and moved to 32-30.
Frisco RoughRiders
Frisco RoughRiders Win a Tight One, 2-1 Over the Hooks (Astros)
Emiliano Teodo kicked things off with 4 solid innings, allowing one run on 5 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 7 (75 pitches/44 strikes).The bullpen was absolutely fantastic! Steven Jennings and Robby Ahlstrom kept it scoreless out of the pen. Jennings was credited with his 4th win of the season after pitching 3 hitless innings while striking out one, retiring all 9 batters he faced.
Ahlstrom closed it out with two scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out one for his 4th save of the season.
Key Hits
- Josh Hatcher (.296) got the scoring started in the 4th with an RBI single.
- Abimelec Ortiz had the game-winning RBI in the top of the 7th.
The RoughRiders are now 17 games above .500 at 37-20. What a season they’re having!
Hickory Crawdads
Hickory Crawdads Fall Short, 9-10. This was a heartbreaker for the Hickory Crawdads. They led 9-2 going into the 7th inning but ultimately lost 9-10.
Crawdads Pitching Highlights
Starter Aidan Curry did his part, pitching 6 strong innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 1. He lowered his ERA from 9.27 to 8.08 (86 pitches/51 strikes).
Gavin Collyer pitched the 9th, allowing 4 runs on 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 2, but all of the runs were unearned.
Defensive Struggles – Devin Hurdle had a rough game with 3 errors, including a missed catch in the top of the 9th that led to the Drive scoring four runs to complete their rally.
Offensive Highlights
Sebastian Walcott had a solid day at the plate, going 2-3 with 2 walks and 3 runs, including a double.
Luis Mieses (.358) went 2-5 with 4 RBIs.
Cam Cauley had his 4th three-hit game of the season, also stealing 3 bases.
The Crawdads move to 25-32.
Down East Wood Ducks Fall to Salem Red Sox, 2-5
The Down East Wood Ducks lost 2-5 to the Salem Red Sox.
Pitching Highlights
Willian Bormie (3.71) pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 4 (59 pitches/36 strikes).
Kolton Curtis (2.45) was tagged with the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing 3 runs on 2 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 4 (60 pitches/34 strikes).
At the Plate
Chandler Pollard and Tommy Specht were the RBI contributors, each driving in one run.
The Wood Ducks move to 30-26.
