Welcome back to The Prospect Times Journal, your go-to source for all the latest action in the Texas Rangers farm system. This is Volume Two, and we’ve got some exciting recaps and stats to share with you. Let’s dive right in!
Round Rock Express Doubleheader Recap
Game One
RHP Jack Leiter started game one against the Oklahoma City Baseball Club (Dodgers), and let’s just say, it left some to be desired. Leiter pitched 3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. He also gave up a long ball, a recurring issue for him this season (72 pitches, 46 strikes).
At the plate, the Express managed to score one run on four hits. Jax Biggers had the only RBI for the Express in the top of the 1st with a bases-loaded walk. Wendzel, Sandro Fabian, Jantzen Witte, and Trevor Hauver each had a hit.
Former farmhand RHP Ricky Vanasco pitched two scoreless innings against the Express.
The Express lost 1-6 and move to 30-28. The OKC Baseball Club stands at 34-25.
Game Two
In game two, the Express turned the tables with an 11-10 win. Dustin Harris kicked things off with a home run in the top of the 1st, clocking in at 100.7 mph, 399 feet, with a launch angle of 27 degrees. This homer was part of a 6-run first inning for the E-Train.
The OKC Baseball Club responded with a grand slam in the bottom of the first and took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd with another four runs.
Veteran Johnny Cueto started for the Express, but it wasn’t his best outing. He pitched 1.1 innings, allowing 7 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 4 (52 pitches, 29 strikes).
Blake Taylor (2-1, 5.17) was credited with the win after pitching two scoreless innings with one walk and 3 strikeouts.
At the plate, Sandro Fabian (.318), Blaine Crim (.230), and Jax Biggers each had two hits. Fabian hit his 7th HR, Biggers had 2 RBI, a walk, and a triple. Jonathan Ornelas (.264) went 1-4, driving in 2 with a walk. Sam Huff (.253) went 1-4 with 3 RBI.
The Express move to 31-28 after splitting the double header.
Frisco RoughRiders Back to Winning Ways
The Frisco RoughRiders won 3-0 against the Hooks. RHP Ben Anderson (4-3, 4.15) had a quality start, pitching 6 innings without allowing any runs. He was stingy with hits, allowing only 3, along with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts, earning his 4th win of the season.
Out of the pen, Steven Jennings pitched two scoreless innings, striking out one and getting his 4th hold. Tyler Owens (3.18) shut the door for his first save of the season, allowing one hit and striking out 2.
At the plate, the RoughRiders scored 3 runs on 6 hits, 4 walks, and 9 strikeouts. The team was active on the bases, stealing 6 bases. Daniel Mateo stole 2 bases. Kellen Strahm (.285) went 1-5 with 2 RBI, and Keyber Rodriguez had the other RBI, going 0-2 with an RBI and a walk.
The RoughRiders move to 35-19.
Hickory Crawdads Win 9-4 Against Greenville Drive
LHP Mitch Bratt (3-3, 5.18) pitched 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 3 (83 pitches, 52 strikes).Out of the pen, Luis Ramirez (6.12) pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two. Jacob Maton (4.22) pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and striking out one on his way to his second save of the season.
At the plate, the Crawdads scored 9 runs on 10 hits, one walk, and 12 strikeouts. Alejandro Osuna, recently named the Texas Rangers minor league defender of the month, went 1-4 with an RBI and a stolen base (6). Cam Cauley (.192) went 2-4 with a HR (2) and 2 RBI. Sebastian Walcott went 0-4 but had an RBI. Anthony Gutierrez (.287) went 3-4 with 2 RBI. Konner Piotto (.247) went 2-3 with 3 runs and a walk.
The Crawdads move to 23-31 with their 3rd straight win.
Down East Wood Ducks Fall 3-7 to the Red Sox
Starter Paul Bonzagni (2-1, 4.32) pitched 3.2 innings, giving up 6 runs on 6 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts (75 pitches, 50 strikes), and took the loss.Out of the pen, Victor Simeon pitched 1/3 inning, walking one and striking out one. Kohl Drake (2.25) pitched 4 innings, giving up one run on 3 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 6.At the plate, the Wood Ducks scored 3 runs on 7 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Echedry Vargas went 1-4 with an RBI. Beycker Barroso (.381) went 2-4 with a run. Julian Brock went 2-4 with a run. Marcos Torres and Tommy Specht each had an RBI.
The Wood Ducks move to 29-24.
DSL Rangers Blue Walk It Off with 12-11 Win Over DSL Tigers 1
The DSL Rangers Blue had a nail-biting 12-11 win over the DSL Tigers 1. At the end of the 6th inning, the Rangers Blue led 9-2, but the Tigers scored 3 runs in the top of the 8th and 6 runs in the top of the 9th.
Thankfully, the Rangers Blue responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th and walked it off with a run in the bottom of the 9th.
The pitcher of the game has to be starter RHP Christopher Hernandez, who pitched 5 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 2 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 9.
At the plate, the Rangers Blue scored 12 runs on 17 hits. Michael Guzman (.444) went 4-5 with 3 RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. Designated hitter Jose Marcano went 3-5 with an RBI. The Rangers Blue move to 1-1.
DSL Rangers Red Win 11-5 Over DSL Arizona Black
The DSL Rangers Red won 11-5, scoring 11 runs on 9 hits. Paulino Santana (.100) went 1-2, worked 3 walks, and scored 4 runs. SS Yolfran Castillo (.455) went 3-4 with 2 RBI and a walk. Aniel Mendoza collected 3 hits, going 3-5 with an RBI and a stolen base.
RHP Alejandro Chiquillo was impressive, throwing 5 no-hit innings, giving up one walk and striking out 5. He got 8 groundouts and one flyout, earning the win.
The DSL Rangers Red move to 2-1.
