2025 International Signing Recap

The International Signing Period began today and the Rangers took the next steps in rebuilding their prospect pool with some of the top international amateur players available. After missing out on the Roki Sasaki sweeptakes, the Rangers pivoted their focus to several key players who they hope will continue to build the plethora of young talent within the minor league system.

One of the exciting elements of the international signing period is the age of the players that will be signed today. While most of them are very young (and not expected to see the Major League Club anytime soon), their potential seems to be limitless given the amount of development that lies ahead in their professional careers. The Rangers have hit on international prospects in the past, most notably with Sebastian Walcott. Walcott signed with the Rangers as part of the 2023 international class for a whopping $3.2M signing bonus (at 17 years of age).

Other memorable names that have landed in Texas via the International Signing Period are: Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez, Leody Taveras, Rougned Odor and Jurickson Profar. While Profar didn’t reach his full potential during his tenure with the Rangers, he found himself at the top of the prospect list several times whlie sporting the Red, White and Blue.

Elorky Rodriguez – Outfielder – Dominican Republic
Signing Bonus: $1,100,000
Age: 17
Top-50 International Prospect Ranking: #29

Expected to be the top international prospect signed by the Rangers this year, Rodriguez is a left-handed hitting outfielder who looks to be a plus defender. Rodriguez has good speed to cover all parts of the outfield, though his size would lead me to believe he’s a strong fit for a corner outfield position at the next level. He has great bat-to-ball ability, and has some sneaky pop. One of the major topics to work on will be his bat speed, and shortening up to the point of contact. With his speed, being a middle-of-the-order contact hitter that can take the extra base appears to be the best path forward in his professional career. One of the more intriguing names I’ve seen thus far. Not sure what his signing bonus is to this point, but imagine it would be around $100k-$200k. All videos and scouting I’ve seen shows he has good metrics from the left side of the plate, and projects to be an MLB talent if his development continues on this trajectory.
