Caden Scarborough Profile
Caden Scarborough has made himself known to Rangers fans as well as people who follow prospects and the minor leagues. He has shot up the prospect boards from not being ranked to No.8 on the Rangers top 30 prospects.
MLB Draft and First Year
Caden Scarborough was drafted with 171 pick in the 6th round of the 2023 draft. He made his debut for the Rangers organization in 2024 split between two levels. He started out with the Arizona Complex League in July with four appearances and one start.
In those appearances, he allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings compiling a 6 ERA with 8 strikeouts to 5 walks. He struggled with his command with the walks compared to the strikeouts, but he didn't allow a homer in his time there.
The Rangers sat him down and had him work on his basics after these results to see what they could get out of him. They must have liked what they saw out of Scarborough and decided to challenge him by sending him to Low A Down East (Now Low A Hickory).
The results weren't great. He allowed 4 runs in 4.1 innings with a 8.31 ERA and 5 strikeouts as well as 4 walks. He did get tagged for a home run in his time there and his command got worse compared to the Arizona Complex League. It makes sense as he is facing a higher level of competition, but it still has to be frustrating after spending time to work on his pitching.
Second Year
Scarborough has turned it around in his second year. He has a 2.88 ERA despite a 2-5 record in 18 starts. He has done this in 75 innings with 24 earned runs with just 19 walks compared to 95 strikeouts.
His combination of his fastball and sweeper have done a great job of overpowering hitters and have helped him get better results. He recently got named pitcher of the week with 5 hitless innings with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. Due to this performance he has been promoted to High-A Hub City and will make his debut on Thursday.
Catching National Attention
He has caught the attention of outlets like Baseball America who posted an article on his progression as well as Prospects Live who recommend picking him up as a dynasty pitcher.
