Ocumare del Tuy, Venezuela native and Texas Rangers’ #29 prospect, David Davalillo, has been honored as the South Atlantic League (SAL) Pitcher of the Month for May, the league announced today. The 22-year-old right-handed pitcher, who signed with the Rangers as a free agent on June 7, 2022, delivered an outstanding performance throughout the month, solidifying his status as a rising star in minor league baseball.
In May, Davalillo went 3-0 with a stellar 0.96 ERA across five starts, pitching 28 innings while allowing just 15 hits and three earned runs. His dominance was highlighted by 35 strikeouts, a .152 batting average against, and an impressive 0.679 WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched). Additionally, he recorded a 2.06 ground-out-to-air-out ratio, showcasing his ability to induce weak contact.
For the 2025 season, Davalillo has continued his remarkable form, posting a 4-0 record with a 1.09 ERA over ten starts, totaling 49.1 innings and striking out 68 batters while maintaining a 0.750 WHIP.
His career stats are equally impressive, with a 13-3 record, 1.96 ERA, and 208 strikeouts over 183.1 innings in 44 games, alongside a 1.009 WHIP.
Davalillo’s brilliance has sparked speculation about a potential promotion to the Frisco RoughRiders, the Rangers’ Double-A affiliate.
Congratulations to David Davalillo from The Prospect Times on this prestigious award!
