
The Hub City Spartanburgers celebrated their first-ever home opener at Fifth Third Park, scoring early and holding on late for a 5-3 victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks in front of 3,736 enthusiastic fans.
Early Scoring
The Spartanburgers jumped out to a lead, scoring 5 runs in the first 3 innings. Dylan Dreiling made history with the franchise’s first home run and first home run at Fifth Third Park, a solo shot, and finished the game 3-for-4. Anthony Gutierrez contributed by stealing second and third, then scoring on a throwing error by the Blue Rocks’ catcher.
Moore’s Clutch Homer
In the bottom of the 3rd, with the game tied at 3-3, Malcolm Moore, who went 2-for-3, hit his first home run of the season—a 2-run shot—bringing in Dylan Dreiling, who had doubled earlier in the inning, to give the Spartanburgers a 5-3 lead.
Pitching Performances
Joey Danielson Earns the Win
Joey Danielson (W, 1-0) replaced starter Leandro Lopez after Lopez pitched 2.1 innings. Danielson threw 2.2 innings, allowing 2 hits and recording 3 strikeouts.
Bullpen Holds the Lead
Josh Mollerus (H, 1) followed, pitching 2 innings and recording 2 strikeouts to maintain the lead. Seth Clark (S, 2) closed out the game, pitching the final 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, and earning his second save of the season.
