Frisco, TX – Jack Leiter set a career-high with 10 strikeouts as the Frisco RoughRiders defeated the Amarillo Sod Poodles 10-4 on Wednesday night.

Leiter (2-2), one of the top pitching prospects in the Texas Rangers organization, allowed just 3 earned runs on 4 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings. He threw 84 pitches, 54 of which were strikes.

He was able to keep the Sod Poodles off balance until the top of the 6th inning, when Caleb Roberts hit a 3-run home run. However, that was all the offense they would muster.

Leiter’s performance was once again, a step in the right direction for the young right-hander. He struggled in the month of April with an 0-2 win-loss record and a 6.75 earned run average across 5 games but has turned that around with three strong starts in May.

In May, he has a 2-0 win-loss record with a 1.59 earned run average across three starts. He’s really limited the free passes, issuing 5 walks in 17 innings.

Leiter’s performance was a reminder of his potential, and it will be interesting to see how he continues to develop this season.
