Jonathan Ornelas has a chance to break the RoughRiders single-season hits record (157) set by Joaquín Arias in the 2005 season. Ornelas has 152 hits on the season after going 3-for-5 tonight.

In case you didn’t remember, Juaquín Arias was part of the Alex Rodriguez trade to the Yankees. Arias was the player that completed the deal.

Ornelas needs 5-hits to tie the record and 6 to break it with four games remaining in the regular season.

Ornelas has had a special and impressive season. He’s currently slashing a line of .299/.357/.425/.782 with 14 home runs and 71 RBI.

He now leads the Texas League with 152 hits. That also leads all of Double-A.

He’s had fourteen 3-hit games on the season.

In a season where multiple team and individual records have been tied or broken, I’m really hoping Ornelas can break this RoughRiders single season hits record.

The Texas Rangers drafted Ornelas in the 3rd round of the 2018 draft from Raymond S. Kellis High School out of Glendale, Arizona.
