Lance Lynn did his thing on the mound yesterday in the Rangers 6-3 win over the Athletics yesterday. He pitched seven strong innings allowing only 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 10 Athletics. Seeing a line like that, makes me glad that we didn’t trade Lynn if it wasn’t for a teams top 5 prospect. On a 17-win team, Lance Lynn has six of those wins.
Jonathan Hernández (2.81) pitched the top of the 8th inning. He allowed a home run and struck out one in his inning of work.
Rafael Montero (2.63) allowed a run on 2 hits. He walked one and struck out two.
Swinging the bats
The Rangers were without Joey Gallo in the line-up but managed 6 runs on 8 hits. Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Derek Dietrich each had a two-hit game.
Derek Dietrich hit his 3rd home run of the year to center field. He’s definitely cooled down since his hot start.
Don’t buy what Rougned Odor is selling. We’ve bought it before only to find out that we wanted a refund shortly after. He has hit a home run in three straight games with 10 RBI over his last 5 games. He is hitting .155/.210/.361/.570 and has a rWAR of -0.4.
If you need a reminder that anything is possible, Jeff Mathis hit a home run. That’s a rarity considering in his 16 year career he’s hit 52 home runs. Of course, that has always been in limited at-bats.
Defensively Isiah Kiner-Falefa is looking excellent at the hot corner. He saved at least one run from scoring with his diving catch in the top of the 7th.
There is no Rangers baseball today. The Rangers start their last roadtrip of the season in Houston with a three-game series. Then they go to Anaheim for a four-game series. The final road games will be a quick two-game series against the Diamondbacks.
The final home games is a four-game series with the Astros.
The Rangers currently would have the 4th pick of the 2021 draft based on winning percentage. The Angels currently would have the 6th, unless Manfred changes the draft order- which he has the power to do this year.
