It’s the Saturday before the MLB trade deadline and the RoughRiders and Springfield Cardinals are playing game five of their six-game series. Some rumors have the Cardinals and Rangers being among the remaining teams possibly in the mix to trade for Nationals star Juan Soto. Jack Leiter led the RoughRiders to a 4-1 win over the Cardinals.

Leiter threw six pitches in the 1st inning, retiring the side in order. He had a no-hitter going through four innings.

The hit he gave up came in the bottom of the 5th in the form of a solo home run off the bat of Julio Rodriguez. He had already retired the first two batters of the inning.

In the sixth, he issued a one out walk, then got Mason Winn to fly-out. Jordan Walker (Cardinals top ranked prospect) then singled. At that point, Leiter was at 80 pitches and was replaced by lefty James Jones. Leiter is on a pitch count limit.

This was Jack Leiter’s longest outing since May 31st when he pitched 5.2 innings against the Wichita Wind Surge.

Leiter’s final line was: 5.2ip, 1r, 2h, 3bb, 4so. 80 pitches/50 strikes.

Out of the pen

James Jones, 33, pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, walking one and striking out two.

Grant Wolfram (5.49) struckout two in his scoreless inning as well.

Grant Anderson (3.26) allowed one hit and struckout one in his scoreless outing and earned his 1st save of the season.
