More Than 21 Reasons to Root for Jake Burger in 2025!

I think Jake Burger is quite a bit better than many Texas Rangers fans might be thinking.

Obviously he is taking over a position in Texas that has been held down by a local fan favorite in Nathaniel Lowe. It has to be tough to follow a fan favorite as popular as Nathaniel Lowe.

But, I believe Jake Burger will be a fan favorite in Texas very very soon.

Jake Burger was the 11th pick in the draft in 2017. He was picked ahead of MLB All-Stars Brent Rooker, Trevor Rogers, Heliot Ramos & Tanner Houck. Burger has been an elite prospect.

Jake Burger hit 29 home runs last season in Miami. He already has 72 home runs as a major leaguer. Brent Rooker, who was in his draft class and just signed a 5 year, $60 Million dollar deal with the A’s, has 79 home runs in his MLB career so far. In 1249 MLB at bats so far, Rooker is hitting .258. In 1233 career at bats Jake Burger is hitting .251. Burger recently stated he was looking to hit at a .275 clip while he expects to still “bring the power.

Jake Burger is a third basemen. As a rookie, future Hall of Fame manager Tony LaRussa played Burger at second base. He will be more than fine at first base. At the Texas Rangers FanFest Bruce Bochy was asked about Burger changing positions and he stated that Burger is a good athlete and he believes he will be fine over at first base…and for what it is worth I absolutely agree!

The story of Jake Burger is more than just a story on the ball field though. It was recently announced that Burger will wear the number 21 on his jersey, and the reason why is touching! Jake and his wife Ashlyn recently had a child, Penelope, who was born with Down Syndrome. The clinical name for Down syndrome is trisomy 21, a condition in which a person is born with an extra chromosome, causing mild to moderate cognitive disability, developmental delays and physical challenges. So Burger’s choice of the number 21 is simply beautiful!

The Rangers also let some fun news out at FanFest regarding Jake. In photos promoting the 2025 Promotions & Theme Nights offerings fans could see a Whataburger Jake Burger jersey! And with as much as Texas residents love their Whataburger, that night is sure to be very very popular!

Burger joined CJ Nitkowski & Ryan Spilborghs, the guys of Loud Outs on MLB Network Radio, recently. As he was talking to the guys you could hear that he was holding his new born, it is clear Jake Burger is a family guy.

The guys asked him about his offseason, “Obviously our beautiful daughter was born October 25th. 2 weeks later I get traded. It’s been a whirlwind but really excited…really excited & fired up to get down there…I’m fired up!”

They asked him about having a family and being a pro ballplayer, and the commitment it takes from everyone in the family.

He mentioned how much support and encouragement his wife Ashlyn gives him, “She wants me to have a 50 Home Run Season”

“For me obviously I bring the power & just working on my consistency day in and day out,” Burger said about his hopes for 2025

In the interview we also learned that Jake Burger and Rangers skipper Bruce Bochy are already connected.

“Boch lives really close to me in Tennessee. We had a couple conversations out on the golf course. He is an awesome guy. I’m really fired up to play for him”

I think the fans in Arlington will be loving Jake Burger a lot in 2025 and well beyond. I think he is going to be an All-Star…and I think his wife Ashlyn just might get her wish. So far the only Texas Rangers hitter to blast 50 Home Runs in a season is Alex Rodriguez. Jake Burger just might add his name to that very short list!
