Sam Huff tops the list of the Rangers’ non-roster invites but I’m most excited about the pitchers; specifically, Jason Bahr and Joe Barlow. Although Huff has risen up the prospect rankings to be number as high as 1-2 on most lists he isn’t going to make the club out of Spring Training. Then again, none of these guys will since the Rangers have a full roster.

The other pitchers that received a non-roster invite are Taylor Guerrieri and Jimmy Herget.

The newly acquired, Sam Travis, Andy Ibanez, Eli White and the already mentioned, Sam Huff for the position players.

RHP Bahr

Jason Bahr, 25 in February, was acquired by the Rangers in the Austin Jackson trade with the Giants. Bahr had a solid year between Down East and Frisco, he compiled a 10-4 record with a 2.51 earned run average in 122 IP and a WHIP of 1.074. We may see him in Arlington at some point this year.

RHP Barlow

Joe Barlow, 24, pitched in three different levels in 2019. He breezed through Frisco so fast (1-1, 1.13 ERA, 16 IP) that I didn’t get a chance to see him in person. Triple A Nashville gave him a little trouble in his 17.1 innings there. He had a 1-1 record with an 8.83 earned run average but again, this was limited innings. I wouldn’t be surprised to him start the season in Nashville and get a call up later in the year.

RHP Guerrieri

Taylor Guerrieri, 27, pitched 26.1 innings for our Texas Rangers in 2019. He had a 5.81 earned run average with a FIP of 5.38 and averaged 7.5 walks per 9 innings pitched.

RHP Herget

Ok, we’ve got a trend with the right-handed pitchers. Jimmy Herget, 26, pitched with the Cincinnati Reds in 2019. He pitched 6.1 innings and had an earned run average of 4.26 with an 8.74 FIP. His Triple-A numbers with Louisville Bats were a lot better with a 3-4 record and a 2.91 ERA in 58.2 innings.
