Well everyone woke up saying that our Rangers will be the big sellers in this year trade deadline. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, we weren’t! The morning started with the Indians and Padres working a trade that sent Mike Clevinger to San Diego. Then the rumors started going around that Lance Lynn was going here and there just to end up staying with our Rangers.
Then the rumors of Joey Gallo getting traded continued from yesterday, well that didn’t happen either.
What did happen was Mike Minor going to Oakland for Marcus Smith and Dustin Harris and $133,000 international slot money and Rangers paying some of Minor’s salary.
Then the stroke of 3:00 PM CST came and the Rangers made the trade that every Rangers fan was waiting for. Robinson Chirinos and Todd Frazier, along with $360,000 of Chirinos’ salary going to the NY Mets for a PTBNL in each deal. Robinson was traded first, then 10 minutes later Todd was traded. Frazier hitting stats .241/.322/.380 2 HR 7 RBI’s in 31 Games!
Robinson hitting stats in 14 Games .119/.224/.143.
Both players signed a 1 yr FA deal during the winter. Frazier is heading back to the Mets were he played for 2018 and 2019! In 2019 Todd hits 21 HR’s .251/.329/.443!
With this trade it opens up the catching position job for Jose Trevino and Jeff Mathis or prospect Sam Huff to be the back up. It also leaves 1st base open for Ronald Guzman to get more work or for prospect Sherten Apostel.
So as Rangers Fans are you happy or disappointed with the deals that were made today? Lets us know in the comments.
