Six-Run Fifth Inning Lifts Express Past El Paso Chihuahuas

The Express overcame an early deficit to defeat the El Paso Chihuahuas behind a six-run explosion in the fifth inning.

Express starter Adrian Sampson battled through four innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks. The bullpen then took over, with five relievers combining for five innings of work. The Express used 5 relievers today after using 4 yesterday. Jonathan Hernandez (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning, striking out one. Antoine Kelley went 2/3 of an inning 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SO and Marc Church (H,1) went 1.2 innings 1 H, 1R, BB, SO.

In the T/3 Davis Wendzel doubled in Derek Hill scored followed by a RBI Sac Fly by Trevor Hauver.

The Express trailed 4-2 entering the fifth inning, but their offense came alive in a big way. Dustin Harris hits his 3rd homer but this one didn’t go over the fence. It rolled to the fence while Dustin was running the bases and made it home without a throw. Trevor Hauver followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Harris, and Andrew Knapp’s sacrifice fly (scored as an error) brought home another run to tie the game.

Sandro Fabian then delivered the key blow with a two-run single, and Jax Biggers capped the scoring with an RBI double. F

abian finished the night 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Derek Hill (3-for-5) and Hauver (2-for-4, RBI) also had strong offensive performances.

The Express roll back home to Dell Diamond for a six-game series against the Oklahoma City Dodgers starting on Tuesday.
