Texas Rangers had the 30th pick in the 1st round of the 2024 MLB draft. That’s the only con to winning the World Series but I’ll take it again.
1st Round Pick (30th): Malcolm Moore | C
With the 30th pick in the 2024 MLB draft, the Texas Rangers selected Stanford catcher Malcolm Moore.
Almost 21, Moore posted a .255/.414/.553/.967 slash line with 16 HR and 36 RBI. Notably, he walked more than he struck out (44:35) this past season, showcasing a more disciplined approach at the plate.
Moore was considered one of the best high school hitters back in 2022. Scouting reports show that he brings a powerful left-handed swing and the ability to make hard contact to all fields.
There seem to be some questions about his defensive capabilities as a catcher, but his power potential is undeniable. If he continues to develop, he could be a power source for the Rangers lineup.
The Rangers’ selection of Moore reflects their commitment to adding high-ceiling talent to their roster. His strong walk-to-strikeout ratio and power-hitting capabilities make him a valuable addition. I love seeing players who walk as much as they strikeout.
2nd Round Pick (65th): Dylan Dreiling | OF
With their 2nd Round pick (65th) of the 2024 MLB Draft, the Texas Rangers selected OF Dylan Dreiling from Tennessee.
Dreiling slashed an impressive .342/.459/.715/1.174 with 23 HR, 75 RBI, 53 BB, and 62 SO in 2024, following up a solid 2023 season where he hit .295/.433/.621/1.054 with 7 HR and 20 RBI.
Dreiling is known for his consistent hard contact and ability to drive the ball in the air. He has shown great discipline at the plate, drawing plenty of walks.
His performance in the College World Series, where he earned Most Outstanding Player honors, speaks to his potential as a clutch hitter.
The downside is that is seems that Dreiling long-term is viewed as more of a designated hitter.
It seems the Texas Rangers have made strategic picks in the 2024 MLB Draft, focusing on players with power potential mixed with an eye on the zone and college players who are likely to see the Majors quicker.
Stay tuned to see what day two of the 2024 MLB Draft brings for our Texas Rangers.
