Texas Rangers call up Alejandro Osuna

The Texas Rangers are calling up OF Alejandro Osuna according to Jeff Passan.

Osuna slashed a line of .283/.363/.409/.772 with 2 HR and 14 RBI in Double-A Frisco. He promoted to Triple-A Round Rock in mid-May and has slashed .259/.474/.444 in eight games while playing center field.

He was the Rangers’ minor league player of the year last season. Osuna slashed .429/.523/.714 in 24 Cactus League games and had many fans thinking he might make the team out of spring.

Osuna was ranked no. 15 on our most recent top 15 Texas Rangers prospects list. Admittedly, that was low but this was released in early October and we haven’t released an updated list this season yet.

The Texas Rangers signed Osuna out of Mexico for $125,000 as a 17-year-old.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Osuna, the Rangers will need to either designated someone for assignment or place someone on the 60-day IL. Joc Pederson is going to miss time due to a fractured wrist. He’ll probably miss about 6 weeks so he may be a candidate to go to the 60-day as 6 weeks is 42 days. He’d need time for a rehab assignment so that would fit within that 60-day timeframe.

The Rangers lineup has yet to find its spark and maybe Osuna can help with that. Don’t expect many home runs. He won’t hit a ton of those but he will get hits.

Congratulations to Alejandro Osuna from The Prospect Times!
