Texas Rangers Promote Top Pitching Prospect Jose Corniell to Triple-A Round Rock

The Texas Rangers have promoted top pitching prospect Jose Corniell from the Double-A Frisco Roughriders to the Triple-A Round Rock Express.

This promotion is a significant step for Corniell, who is returning from Tommy John surgery.

Corniell, who turned 22 in June, missed all of the 2024 season and the early part of 2025 due to the procedure.

His comeback has been nothing short of remarkable. In 2023, he established himself as one of the organization's top arms, posting a 2.92 ERA across 101 innings pitched for the Down East Wood Ducks and the Hickory Crawdads.

His stellar performance earned him the prestigious 2023 Nolan Ryan Minor League Pitcher of the Year award.

Dominant Performance and Potential MLB Debut

Corniell began his return with four rehab appearances in the Arizona Complex League in July before joining the Roughriders.

Since his July 19th debut with Frisco, he has been dominant, allowing only two runs (one earned) on five hits and just one walk over 20 innings. His exceptional 20:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio highlights his elite command and effectiveness.

A key factor in his fast-track promotion is that Corniell is already on the Rangers' 40-man roster, which makes him a prime candidate for a potential major league call-up.

With September here, it's not out of the question that the team could give him an appearance or two in the big leagues before the season concludes.

Corniell was originally acquired by the Rangers from the Seattle Mariners after the 2020 season in a trade for reliever Rafael Montero.
