It’s always exciting to see Texas Rangers prospects making a mark, and this week, SS Cameron Cauley (High-A Hickory) and OF Braylin Morel (Rookie-level ACL Rangers) have done just that. They’ve been named the South Atlantic League and Arizona Complex League Players of the Week for July 1-7, respectively.
Cameron Cauley, at just 21, has showcased his power and speed. Over five games, he went 7-for-17 (.412) with 3 home runs, a triple, a double, 5 RBIs, and 3 stolen bases. His performance included his second multi-homer game of the season on Wednesday against Winston-Salem, where he went 3-for-4 with 2 home runs, a double, and 2 RBIs.Cauley’s stats this season are impressive.
Ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the Texas system by MLB Pipeline, he’s hitting .251 (57-227) with 8 home runs, 3 triples, 13 doubles, 21 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases in 58 games for Hickory and the ACL Rangers.
His recent performance has been even more notable, with a .314/.360/.559/.919 slash line over his last 25 games for the Crawdads since June 6. I appreciate how he combines power with speed, making him a dynamic presence on the field.
Cauley was recently pulled from the game after hitting his home run, with no reports of an injury. Naturally, this has led to speculation about a potential trade. It could also indicate a promotion to Frisco, although I wouldn’t necessarily bet on it at this time. It will be interesting to see if he’s in the lineup tomorrow as the Crawdads face the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
Braylin Morel, 18, has also been on a tear. He’s earned his second consecutive ACL Player of the Week award (also June 24-30). Over five games, he batted .368 (7-19) with 4 home runs, a triple, a double, 7 RBIs, and drew 5 walks.
His highlight was a two-homer game with a season-high-tying 4 RBI against the ACL Padres. Morel’s consistency is evident, with hits in 8 straight games.
He’s slashing .297/.399/.566/.964 with 7 home runs, 5 triples, 8 doubles, a team-high 34 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases across 39 games for the ACL Rangers this season.
His impressive stateside debut hints at his potential to develop into a key player for the Rangers. Both Cauley and Morel embody the some of the qualities I admire in baseball players: power, speed, and consistency.
Their recent performances are a testament to their hard work and potential. As a fan watching these prospects develop is truly exciting.
