Three Texas Rangers Prospects on MLB Pipeline’s Updated Top 100 List

The Texas Rangers continue to build a future that looks so bright that you’ll need to put on your sunglasses if you look more than a few sect. Not surprising that three of the Texas Rangers top prospects have earned spots on MLB Pipeline’s updated Top 100 list they released a few days ago: Sebastian Walcott (No. 23), Kumar Rocker (No. 58), and Alejandro Rosario (No. 86). Each of these players has taken a significant step forward in their development this season, making a strong case for why they’re seen as the future of the Rangers’ organization.

1. Sebastian Walcott (No. 23)

There’s no other way to put it: Sebastian Walcott has been nothing short of a revelation this year. Ranked No. 23, Walcott became the youngest player in Frisco RoughRiders history when he was promoted to Double-A this season, and he has more than lived up to the hype.

At just 18 years old, it’s easy to forget how young he is compared to the competition, but that hasn’t stopped him from showcasing his natural ability. His bat has begun to flash real power, and his defensive instincts at shortstop continue to impress.

What makes Walcott so exciting is his combination of advanced tools and high baseball IQ at such a young age. His glove is reliable, his arm is strong, and his range allows him to make plays others simply can’t. On the offensive side, his plate discipline has also improved, and his power potential is becoming more evident with each game. In my opinion, seeing him rise through the system so quickly is a clear indication that the Rangers believe they have something special in Walcott. If he keeps progressing at this pace, he could be a staple in the Rangers’ infield for years to come.

2. Kumar Rocker (No. 58)

Kumar Rocker has everything it takes to be an ace, and the Rangers know it. After returning from Tommy John surgery, Rocker’s performance this past season solidified his place as the No. 58 prospect on MLB Pipeline’s list. What stands out about Rocker is that he doesn’t just rely on his high-velocity fastball—though topping out at 100 mph is certainly impressive—but he combines that with an elite slider that devastates opposing hitters.

Throughout each level of the minors this season, he dominated. He overpowered hitters at every stop, looking like the top-of-the-rotation arm that the Rangers hoped he would be when they selected him third overall in the 2022 MLB Draft.

What’s particularly exciting about Rocker is how he competes. He’s a bulldog on the mound, attacking hitters relentlessly and showing the poise of a future leader in the rotation. Watching him dominate in the minors, it’s clear that he has the makings of an ace. His fastball-slider combo is deadly, but he’s also shown the ability to mix in his changeup effectively, giving him a true three-pitch mix that can miss bats at a high level. For me, the most important takeaway from Rocker’s 2024 season is his improved command. He’s limiting walks, staying ahead in counts, and that’s going to be key as he transitions to higher levels.

3. Alejandro Rosario (No. 86)

While Alejandro Rosario might not be as widely recognized as Walcott and Rocker, he’s a name to watch closely. Ranked No. 86, Rosario is a strike-throwing machine who has continued to impress with his ability to pound the zone. Walks have been rare in his outings, which makes him stand out among many young pitchers still refining their command. He has shown an advanced feel for pitching at just 19 years old, and the Rangers have to be thrilled with his development.

Rosario has the kind of swing-and-miss stuff that catches your attention. His fastball explodes through the zone, and when combined with his secondary offerings, he’s been able to generate plenty of strikeouts. What’s even more impressive is how few free passes he gives up. Command is often the Achilles heel for young pitchers, but Rosario has shown the ability to control the strike zone, which bodes well for his future. He’s one of those arms that might not get all the headlines, but he’s quietly establishing himself as a legitimate future starter for the Rangers. In my view, the most encouraging sign for Rosario’s future is that he’s learning how to outthink hitters while continuing to refine his stuff, and that’s the kind of growth that can turn a good prospect into a great one.

Seeing Sebastian Walcott, Kumar Rocker, and Alejandro Rosario all featured on MLB Pipeline’s updated Top 100 list isn’t surprising but shows how deep the Texas Rangers’ farm system still truly is.

Each of these prospects brings something different to the table: Walcott’s youth and athleticism, Rocker’s power pitching and ace potential, and Rosario’s strike-throwing ability and swing-and-miss stuff.

From what I’ve seen this season, all three of these players are poised to make an impact at the major league level.

Walcott is on the fast track, Rocker has ace potential and already made his MLB debut, and Rosario could develop into a reliable starter. It’s an exciting time to be a Rangers fan, with the future looking brighter than ever.
