Frisco, TX- The RoughRiders needed a strong pitching performance from Zak Kent last night. What they got was a brilliant outing from him. He matched his season-high in innings pitched when he last pitched 7 innings against the Wind Surge.
A crowd of 5,986 was on hand to watch Zak Kent’s dominance on the mound.
The RoughRiders once again found the scoreboard first scoring both of their runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning.
The RoughRiders first run came after Josh Stowers scored on a passed ball after stealing 3rd base as part of a double-steal.
Their next run came from an RBI-double off the bat of Jonathan Ornelas on a 1-1 count.
Ornelas is still the Texas League’s hits leader, now with 133.
Zak Kent was hit as high as 94 on the fastball from what I saw. He hit as low as 77 on the off-speed. In outings where he has pitched at least 5 innings, the 3 hits last night were the least he has allowed.
The Wind Surge’ lone run came in the top of the 7th when Jair Camargo hit his 8th home run of the season.
Out of the pen
Left-hander Grant Wolfram pitched a scoreless 8th inning allowing one hit and striking out 2.
Right-hander Grant Anderson pitched a scoreless 9th inning. A allowed a walk but struckout the side earning his 6th save of the season.
With their win last night the RoughRiders are tied with the Midland RockHounds for 1st place in the 2nd half with a 27-21 record.
