Frisco Roughriders 1st baseman Abimelec Ortiz was officially named Texas League player of the week on Monday for September 9th-15th.
Ortiz continued his outstanding 2024 Campaign by going 11 for 21 during the week sending out 4 homers and a double while driving in 8 RBIs. Not only was his bat skills on display, but he even displayed good patience as he walked(4) more than he struck out(3) during the week.
The 22-year-old Puerto Rican was signed in 2021 by the Rangers and is in his 4th professional year with the organization. Ortiz has found his swing this year and is tied for 4th in the Texas League in Homers this year.
However, Ortiz has put it together in the 2nd half, where he’s had a slash line of .304/.402/.547. He’s hit 13 homers, almost tripling his totals from the first half, and driven in 40 runs, almost doubling his 1st half totals. Ortiz is poised to lead this Roughriders team into the playoffs and secure another Texas League title for the club.
