Frisco Classic recap: DBU vs Arizona

Beautiful Saturday for baseball. For game 5 of the Frisco Classic we’ve got a match-up between Dallas Baptist and the Arizona Wildcats.

Today is another day that is perfect for baseball, as long as you are in the sun. The shadows at Dr Pepper Ballpark are chilly and the crowd keeps moving along with the sun, especially as we got deeper into the game. This is just a general recap as some plays I miss while I’m going to my next seat. I’ve sat in every section of this ballpark and there really isn’t a bad seat in the house. Back to the Frisco Classic DBU vs Arizona.

Team Records:

Each team has an identical record at 7-2.

DBU on the mound

Left-handed pitcher Jared Pettitte struggled. He wasn’t able to record an out and issued three walks and hit a batter while throwing 21 pitches, 5 for strikes.

Right-hander Chandler Arnold relieved Pettitte and pitched 3.2 innings. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits, 4 walks, 3 strikeouts and 2 wild pitches.

Left-hander, Chas Sagedahl pitched 1.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, 1 walk and 1 wild pitch.

Heaton pitched 1 inning and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, 1 strikeout and a wild pitch. Only 1 of the 4 runs was earned.

Left-hander Joey Martin pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed 3 runs on 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 1 wild pitch and a hit batter.

Luke Trahan pitched the only shutout inning for DBU. He allowed a hit, 1 walk, 1 strikeout and a hit a batter.

DBU used six pitchers in total.

DBU’s pitching staff issued 11 walks, had 5 wild pitches and hit 4 batters. That is a lot to overcome.

Sagedahl, Chas(0-1) took the loss.

Arizona on the mound

G. Irvin (2.53) started and pitched 3 innings. He allowed 2 runs, 1 earned on 4 hits, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts and a balk.

D. Netz pitched 2/3 of an inning with 1 strikeout.

Arizona used 7 pitchers.

At the plate

Dbu scored 8 runs on 12 hits. They struck out 17 times and walked 6 times.

Town, Grady and Benefield each had a multi-hit game. Town went 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI, a walk and a strikeout. Soda hit a well-timed 3-run home run to tie the game in the top half of the 5th at 5 a piece.

Arizona scored 15 runs on 13 hits. They walked 11 times and only struck out 6 times. Four batters were hit by pitch.

Defensively each team committed an error.

Yes I was here before the game started but I was busy taking pictures. 5-1 Arizona in the bottom of the 3rd.

Benefield leads off the inning with a grounder and he was safe at 1st.

rbi single for River Town to bring the score to 5-2 Arizona.

Blake Paugh leads off for the Wildcats. He struck out swinging. 1st baseman Brandon Boissiere got behind 1-2 then gave the ball a ride to the left outfielders glove. Berry worked a walk. Pitching change . Kato

Sosa hit a home run to left. David flied out to center. 5-5

Susac flied out to left. Leftfielder Bingham walks. Williams grounded into double play. I should say it was a pretty sweet play with a nice stretch by the 1st baseman.

6th

River Town had a 0-2 count and hit a liner to right field for a double. Grady laid down a successful bunt moving Town to 3rd. Pitching Change, Vaneli # 26. DBU has 10 hits compared to four for Arizona. Glenn strikes out swinging. Jones is at bat. The pitcher balks, scoring Town and advancing Grady. Jones pops out to 3rd. Bell hits a single through the infield scoring Grady. Benefield struck out swinging. 7-5 DBU.

Holgate hits a home run that they say hit the line. It’s under review. He hit a double. Paugh hits an infield single. Boissiere is up to bat. Paugh goes to 2nd on a wild pitch. The catcher throws the ball to 2nd but he’s safe. We’ve got another review. Boissiere hits a single to left-field. Pitching change Zach Eaton, 46. Berry hits a single and this game is tied at 7. Kato flies out to left. Susac hits a ball out to right that drops in for a hit and scores a run. 8-7 Wildcats. Bingham gets . Williams reachs on a wide throw to 1st and a run scores. Blas hits a rope to the shallow left that drops and another run scores. 12-7. Holgate strikes out but reaches on a wild pitch. Things are falling apart for DBU. Paugh flies out to center.

I’m moving to sunlight again.

7th

River Town is at bat with two on and one out. He hit a ball that the left fielder scoring a run. Grady strikes out. Glenn strikes out to end the inning.

That is ballgame. The Arizona Wildcats win 15-8 over DBU. The Wildcats record is now 8-2 and DBU 7-3.
