Despite home runs hit by Joey Gallo, Leody Taveras and Ronald Guzmán the Rangers lost their fifth straight game. They lost by a 4-3 final to the Seattle Mariners and are trending towards a number one draft pick in 2021. They are currently tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 2nd pick with a 13-26 record.
Kyle Seager must love facing the Rangers. Ranger fans and beat writers often refer to Seager as the Rangers killer. He destroys our pitching on a yearly basis. Today’s game was no different as in the bottom of the 1st inning he hit a home run to right center. The Mariners held the lead the whole game.
Starting pitching
Jordan Lyles (1-4, 8.07) took the loss for the Rangers. It wasn’t his worst game though. He pitched 6.1 innings and allowed the 4 runs on 3 hits, 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. His earned run average was at 8.59 before this game.
Out of the pen
Brett Martin pitched 2/3 of an inning. He also pitched 1.1 innings last night but only threw 9 pitches. Today, he allowed 1 hit and walked 1 and has a 1.17 earned run average.
Rafael Montero pitched one scoreless inning as well. He struck out one and now has a 2.53 earned run average.
Swinging the bats
Joey Gallo hit a home run that broke statcast. No seriously. It broke statcast so bad that they claim it only went 433 feet.

Leody Taveras has impressed definitely in the field and he’s no doing bad at the plate. Taveras hit his 2nd home run of the year. He’s got a .238 average and a .738 OPS.
Ronald Guzmán is trying to show his value. He’s been solid at the plate since being recalled. He is by far the best defensive 1st baseman the Rangers have.
Taveras and Isiah Kiner-Falefa were the only two Rangers with more than one hit in today’s game.
The final game of this series is tomorrow at 3:10 PM CST and will see southpaw Kolby Allard taking the mound for the Rangers against Marco Gonzales.
