Hickory throws combined 10 inning no hitter

There was a few firsts for the Hickory Crawdads last night. For the 1st time since throwing a no hitter against Delmarva on May 19, 2013, Hickory threw a combined 10 inning no-hitter.

It was first 9 innings plus no-hitter since 2004 and the 5th No-hitter in team history according to Crawdads beat writer Mark Parker.

The game was scoreless until the top of the 10th when Hickory’s bats came to life.

Trevor Hauver was the Ghost runner when Cristian Inoa doubled Hauver in for the first run of the game.

On the very next pitch, Angel Aponte singled in Inoa for a 2-0 lead. That was followed by RBI singles from Randy Florentino and Luisangel Acuña making the score 4-0.

Reliever Theo McDowell replaced Michael Brewer in the 9th. In the 10th, he went out for his 2nd inning of work with a Ghost runner on 2nd. Theo struckout the first hitter on a 3-2 count then Theo got some help from centerfielder Evan Carter to run down a deep fly ball for second out.

Theo walked the next hitter on a 3-2 count. After a mound visit, Theo induced a grounder to Shortstop Luisangel Acuña who threw a short hop to 1st baseman Cristian Inoa who dug it out for the NO-HITTER!

Starting pitcher Larson Kindreich went 6 innings throwing ZEROS with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. Larson got to a 3 ball count only 3 times in his 6 innings.

Larson was replaced after throwing 84 pitches by Leury Tejeda who went 1 inning striking out one.

Michael Brewer replaced Tejeda after 1 inning of work. Brewer went 1 inning ZEROS 2 strikeouts!

Theo McDowell earned the win (W,1-0, 0.00) went 2 innings with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

Game 6 of this series against Bowling Green is later today at 1:05 PM Central.
